Everton fought hard to beat Chelsea 1-0 at Goodison Park today, thanks to a goal from birthday boy Steve Naismith.

All eyes were on Samuel Eto'o as he made he his debut for Chelsea, and he got involved quite early on, as Chelsea created a few chances in the opening minutes.

But Everton gave us as good as they got, Nikica Jelavic's attempt at a header though in the 9th minute was too easy for Peter Cech in goal.

Tim Howard almost gave Chelsea the lead, as the Everton goalkeeper passed the ball straight to Eden Hazard, but Gareth Barry made a wonderful challenge to stop Eto'o from getting the ball from Hazard.

Howard made up for that error five minutes later as he stopped a great shot from Ramires from flying into the top corner.

Minutes later Andre Schurrle should've opened the scoring for Chelsea, but he made a real hash of the shot.

And it was the home side who took the lead, just before half-time. Steve Naismith, on his birthday, headed home after receiving the ball from Jelavic to give the Toffees a 1-0 lead.

Chelsea started the second-half pressing for the equalizer and in the first ten minutes both Schurrle and Hazard came close.

In the 58th minute Oscar thought he had a penalty after a challenge from Sylvain Distin, but Howard Webb wasn't interested.

Everton thought they had a penalty of their own in the 81st minute when Seamus Coleman was brought down by Hazard, but it was ruled to be just outside the box.

Leighton Barnes almost made it 2-0 in the 89th minute but his free-kick attempt clipped the cross bar.
