Kolo Trumpets Liverpool's Spirit

Kolo Toure says he has been impressed by Liverpool’s team spirit, which he thinks will make them a powerful force this season.

The veteran Ivorian defender joined the Reds for free from Manchester City at the beginning of the season, and is already to proving to be an astute piece of business by Reds boss, Brendan Rodgers.

Until he was injured before Liverpool’s win over Manchester United, Toure had been one of the team’s star performers in their impressive 100% start to the campaign.

But even watching from the treatment table, Toure says he feels part of a formidable and closely-knit Reds squad.

"With team spirit, you can win anything. Individuals are very important, but team spirit is the key - it is the most important thing,” he told Liverpool’s official website.

"Individuals can win you one game, but to win trophies or be champions it is [down to] a group of players.

"If you want to be successful, you need to work as a team. That is really, really important because we are a group of players and we have the same target - to win trophies and do as well as we can.

"When you don't play, you need to support the team and your teammates need to feel that you are behind them fully."

Missing Liverpool’s edifying win over United was painful for Toure, but such is his belief in the notion of team-spirit, that he is pleased that his replacement, Martin Skrtel, enjoyed such a good outing against the old enemy.

"The lads played a great game [against United]," he said. "I was off the pitch and really wanted to help them, but I couldn't.

"Skrtel had a fantastic game and we worked as a team really, really well. That is great for the team spirit of the group."
