Memphis Depay

2018 World Cup Qualifier

Result: Luxembourg 1-3 Netherlands

Date: 13 November 2016

Venue: Stade Josy Barthel

Memphis Depay came off the bench to score a brace, as the Netherlands secured a 3-1 win over Luxembourg in their 2018 World Cup qualifier.

Wesley Sneijder and Bas Dost returned to the line-up for Oranje, as Vincent Janssen and Joel Veltman drop to the bench.

The Dutch got off to a promising start, as Arjen Robben and Wijnaldum went close to scoring in the opening 15 minutes.

Danny Blind's charges eventually broke the deadlock after 36 minute as Robben fired a low effort past Schon, after some good build-up play involving Davy Klaassen.

Luxembourg leveled matters on the stroke of halftime, as Maxime Chanot scored from the penalty spot, after Mota was brought down by Joshua Brenet.

The visitors opted for a double change at the start of the second half, as Depay and Steven Berghuis replaced Sneijder and Robben.

Depay made the perfect impact, as the Manchester United rose well to head home Daley Blind's cross from the left flank after 58 minutes, 2-1.

The Dutch continued to push for more goals, with Depay, Dost and Bart Ramselaar all going close after 65 minutes.

Depay sealed the victory in the 84th minute when the Red Devils winger curled home a fine free-kick to grab his second and Dutch's third goal on the night.
