DStv Premiership Report: Golden Arrows v Baroka 03 March 2021

Result: Golden Arrows 0-0 Baroka

Date: 03 March 2021

Venue: Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium

Golden Arrows and Baroka FC shared the spoils at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Wednesday evening as they drew 0-0 in the DStv Premiership.

Bakgaga took the game to the hosts in the early exchanges as they mounted threatening attacks. One such onslaught required Matome Mathiane to make a timely clearance behind for a corner, which was headed away by Velemseni Ndwandwe.

The visitors also had a chance from a free kick a few yards outside the Arrows box. Joslin Kamatuka drilled the ball through the wall and Sifiso Mlungwana had to make a diving save.

Baroka's wings enjoyed some space and counter-attacked to set up a cross but the headed attempt on goal flew over the bar.

Abafana Bes'thende found some progress shortly thereafter and caught the away defence off-guard. Oscarine Masuluke had to come off his line to defend but the strike from Knox Mutizwa went wide.

Mutizwa turned provider when he crossed for Lindokuhle Mtshali late into the first half. The midfielder was unable to keep his effort down and the teams went into the dressing rooms locked at 0-0.

The second half was off to a scrappy start as both sides misplayed their opportunities in the final third, allowing potential chances to slip away.

Baroka were on the front foot later on in the second half and unleashed two shots on goal in quick succession. However, Divine Lunga did well to make the vital blocks.

Mlungwana initiated a quick counter-attack in the last five minutes, setting Sabelo free down the wing. He combined with Ndwandwe but Baroka recovered to break up the play at the crucial moment.

There was some end-to-end action in the dying minutes of the clash, yet the teams remained level until the final whistle as Arrows held on to fifth position in the standings and Baroka maintained ninth.
