Bafana Bafana’s trip to Central America has not gotten off to a good start, with the national team being sent home from the airport due to an issue with visas.
Shakes Mashaba’s men are set to play both Costa Rica and Honduras in international friendlies over the next couple of weeks, playing on the 9th and 14th of October respectively.
According to Siya sources, Bafana were set to fly from OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg to Costa Rica via the United States, however it turned out that the team didn’t have valid visas for the US.
Now, having returned to the team hotel in Milpark, Bafana have people working on the acquisition of the correct documents so that they can jet out for Costa Rica either tomorrow or Tuesday.
Bafana play their first game in Central America at 04h00 (SA time) on Friday morning, meaning that they will now have extremely rushed preparations once they eventually touch down.
With the earliest flights to Costa Rica only leaving from Johannesburg tomorrow evening, it is likely that, in a best-case scenario, Bafana will only arrive on Tuesday night.
