Shoes May Be Gone, But His Memories Live On

Shoes May Be Gone, But His Memories Live On

It was on this very same day in 2015 when legendary footballer, John "Shoes" Moshoeu succumbed to the cancer battle.

The Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend was known for his immense talent and always appreciated by many for his contributions in the growth of South African football, on and off the football pitch.

'Shoes' was one of the longest serving Bafana Bafana players, having been capped 73 times. The legend represented with pride and dignity in the colours of South African men's national football team.

The former Chiefs midfielder retired at the age of 37. One would think at that age, a player would have long reached their "expiry date" and legs would be surely tired. But, it was a different story for Moshoeu. His legs were fresh as ever and even upon hanging boots, supporters would still give anything to see the midfield maestro juggle the ball.

He may be gone, but his skillful football memories still live on. We will never forget him. May his soul continue to rest in peace.

What are you fondest memories of Shoes?
