Supporters Club has experienced a great loss – the great Ace and Banks column is no more. From now on, we will be paying homage to our footballing gods and appreciate a different legend every Wednesday. This week, we speak about Nelson "Teenage" Dladla.
Teenage was one of the greats who helped Kaizer Chiefs acquire the reputation they have today. It is important to know that the Glamour Boys began as a mere collection of footballers who rose to prominence and gained millions of fans.
Teenage, along with the likes of Ace Ntsoelengoe, Banks Setlhodi, and Computer Lamola, ruled the footballing world.
Dladla's skills were legendary; they used to draw the fans to their feet in elation, especially his ability to roll his foot over the ball towards and away from defenders to fool them with his wizardry.
Teenage only ever played for Kaizer Chiefs in his professional career; after playing, he worked on the coaching staff under Jeff Butler.
He will unfortunately always be associated with the death of legendary Kaizer Chiefs PRO Ewert Nene. Known as "The Lip", Ewert was stabbed to death when he went to try and sign Teenage from his local club, Pilkington Brothers United. The locals were unhappy with his attempt to take Teenage away and stabbed him during a heated argument.
Today, we pay respect to the legend, Teenage Dladla. Thank you for all you did for South African football.
