Pre-season games are mainly for coaches to see what their players can do. It was the case in the recent Soweto Derby, where we saw both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates having derby debutants.
Chiefs had Ryan Moon and Kgotso Malope, while Pirates had Musa Nyatama and Thamsanqa Sangweni making their debuts.
Supporters had different views, as always, on the matter. Here's what some posted:
"Chiefs are no different than last season. If not so, why did they fail to put four, five or more against my 'dead' Buccaneers? Chippa will beat this overrated Chiefs team, mark my words!" – spokemini
"Black Label Cup was a good chance for us to see our new players and those who should go. We don't really need to say this again. Gcaba is not Bucs material. Gabuza has to make way for Obiozor. Sarr saw on Saturday that Sangweni is ready. Area of concern is centre back, where we need to sign only two players then release Memela, with Mahachi coming our way. As for Manyisa and Makola, I would love to say my goodbyes, guys. You made history with us but now it's time to go." – slivo ledimo
"I love Pirates but I must brace myself for more disappointments this coming season, with that defence and midfield who cannot create goals and strikers who can't score." – ezramokadi2
"Kgotso Malope, aka 'Mshini', will make headlines this season. The youngster will follow the route of his fellow Daveyton homeboys who left their mark in Naturena, the likes of Jabu, Pollen, Skappie and Junior Kanye, on Chiefs' success." – Jonnybee50
"You can't play with the same team that did not do well the previous season and expect results. Only two shots at goal for Pirates, hayi, this team is dead." – Carder305
