After a sparkling performance for Mamelodi Sundowns against Baroka FC, Lyle Lakay received praises in numbers after his man of the match winning display.

What's the story?

The Chloorkop giants hit a pothole in their charge of the DStv Premiership title after a dramatic stalemate against Baroka. Having been immaculate for most of the 21/22 campaign, Downs have won just two out of their last five, recording two draws and a defeat.

Leading The Way

That said, Sundowns still lead the way on the log, with 18 points separating themselves from Orlando Pirates who have two games in hand.

Lakay, who was one of the star performers against Baroka, was on the receiving end of praises on social media during and after the match. The former Cape Town City star was proving to be threat throughout the tie and hit the woodwork on a couple of occasions.

Man On A Mission

However, Lakay eventually found the back of the net courtesy of a pinpoint free-kick in the 49th minute. The Cape Town born player could have recorded another free-kick goal earlier in the tie when he nearly caught Elvis Chipezeze on his near post.

In the 21/22 campaign, Lakay has now scored three goals and recorded seven assists along the way, numbers highly appreciated by the Downs faithful. After the game, many supporters dubbed Lakay as the best left-back in the land, as they praised him on social media.

Here are some of the reactions:

Have your say…

Where do you rank Lakay among the best left-backs in the PSL?
