This weekend saw an exciting round of fixtures all centered around qualification for next year's Afcon tournament in Gabon. Some nations were left elated and some disappointed following the weekend's results. Many of our Zimbabwean supporters will be smiling today, though, after a fantastic team showing by the Warriors.
It was a powerful team putting on a magnificent performance in front of a passionate and large crowd in Zimbabwe on Saturday. The mood could be felt through the TV, but just to get closer, Supporters Club caught up with our Zimbabwean correspondent Shepard Sithole.
"I am very happy, I am over the moon," he said.
"This team we have is quality, we did not even give Malawi a chance to breathe on the ball."
"We pretty much have the whole PSL first team in our squad. Have you seen that squad? We have Katsande, Ndoro, Billiat, Rusike and Musona. Any team would kill to have that."
When asked if this was the best Zimbabwe squad to have ever existed, Shepard did not hesitate to answer.
"Yes, without a doubt. Yes. And that is also why the stadium is full, the people have confidence in their team," he added.
Shepard is in a tough place as he was born in Zimbabwe but lives and works in South Africa and supports Kaizer Chiefs. When asked what would happen if South Africa were to play Zimbabwe now, this was his response:
"Zimbabwe would probably win 4-0."
What do you think of the current crop of Zimbabwean players? Why are they producing so many talented footballers?
