Gone But Not Forgotten - Remembering Ellis Park 43

The Ellis Park Stadium disaster went down as one of the darkest days in South African sporting history, as fans show their support to the 43 who tragically lost their lives.

What's the story?

Today marks 21 years since the tragic Ellis Park Stadium disaster occurred, which no doubt brings back sad memories to supporters in the local game.

During the Soweto Derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates at the time, 43 fans lost their lives as a result of a stampede caused by spectators who were trying to make their way into the grounds.

The game was brought to a halt after 34 minutes when a high number of injuries were reported. Thereafter, the bodies were brought onto the pitch for identification and medical assistance.

That said, Chiefs and Pirates took to their social media handles in remembering those who tragically lost their loves while supporters paid their respects in the comments sections.
