Supporters Club member and Kaizer Chiefs fan Mama Fefe was at Moses Mabhida Stadium when what was supposed to be a night of celebration for Free State Stars turned violent.
Mama Fefe relives the unfortunate experience.
"What happened at Moses Mabhida Stadium has taught me that it's not really followers of the game that go there, to commit such crimes. Such people wear football replicas to tarnish the image of football clubs all in the name of hooliganism.
"I was there and I witnessed it all. In the 76th minute, I noticed those people gathering around and planning their mischievousness. When some supporters tried to reprimand them, they refused to listen. There was also an element of tribalism and they were aggressive. They were saying things such as 'No Xhosa people will tell us what to do, this is KwaZulu-Natal and it's our nation. Even this Komphela is Xhosa, we can't be led by a Xhosa.'
"Such distasteful comments tend to be offensive. Like I said, no supporter would willingly put on their team jersey only for them to go and damage the standard, brand and image of the team. Real Kaizer Chiefs supporters do not behave like that. Even our club released a statement condemning this barbaric act of people claiming to be football lovers. What happened at Mabhida is not part of the Kaizer Chiefs culture, nor is it part of South African football.
"We usually take our kids with to the stadiums but this time around we decided not to. Imagine they had been there to witness such horror! However, it makes no difference because the kids saw it all on TV, that sends a very wrong message to our children. I am not going to lie. What I witnessed there was very traumatising.
"A word of gratitude to the supporters of various teams who kept on calling us to check if we are safe and sound. Now, that is the spirit of humanity in football. Some of us, our rivalry only last for 90 minutes and after that we are all friends again. We love football, we really do, but we are being exposed to danger now, which is unacceptable.
"What I also fail to understand is that police were there and they saw the situation was going to get out of control, yet they didn't do much. How could the beating of the poor security guard happen right in front of them? Recently, we were calling for clubs to beef up security at stadiums and they did exactly that, yet we are the very same people that treat other human beings like that. How could they do that? That was very wrong and disheartening!
"I urge the PSL to do everything it takes to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book and punished accordingly. We, as Soccer Laduma Supporters Club members, can even plan a march to wherever or whoever is going to listen to us about the cries of our unsafety at the stadiums. We can't go on like this, we can't live like this. If ever the PSL needs help arresting or identifying the perpetrators, Supporters Club members are more than willing to assist in that regard. We take videos and pictures all the time and we will help wherever we can."
