Mamelodi Sundowns registered another win in their Absa Premiership match against Maritzburg United on Wednesday evening, making it eight wins in 12 league games.
Masandawana, seemingly unstoppable as they continue to collect maximum points, took down the Team of Choice, with in-form Percy Tau's goal enough to secure the three points for the Brazilians.
Supporters Club caught up with one of its members, username mcivorSA, real name Zolile Debedu, who believes that, despite the Brazilians having had a poor start to the season, there is no stopping them from clinching the PSL title come end of the campaign. He also said that Downs coach Pitso Mosimane has found his winning combination right on time, while the "big guns" are still struggling.
SC wanted to know more about what he meant when he made reference to the "big guns" and who exactly they are… here is his explanation.
Lerato Mkhondo: Hi Zola, big up to on your win against the Team of Choice. All seems to be going well for the Yellow Nation…
Zola: I'm happy with how our team is playing. Pitso Mosimane managed to get his winning team while big teams are struggling even though we had a poor start to the season.
Lerato: How long do you think this momentum will last?
Zola: We are on top to stay. Our upcoming game is against Cape Town City and I don't think they will give us a hard time. I'm just worried about Bloemfontein Celtic, their coach Veselin Jelusic is doing an incredible job at Siwelele and his team is getting there. I just hope our players will keep fit and injury-free. Percy Tau's confidence is on another level, he's been doing well. You know, every team has a star player, like Barcelona's Messi and Real Madrid's Ronaldo, and I think Percy has great potential to reach that level and be Downs' star player.
Lerato: Who are these "big teams" you're referring to?
Zola: Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United. Reason being, I think they are the only and better competitions for Downs. If you look at Pirates' strike department, they're only relying on Gabuza who is struggling to get the goals and Nkosi is not even getting a chance to prove himself. If they continue like that, then clearly we are running away with the league.
Lerato: I see there is no mention of Kaizer Chiefs?
Zola: Aaah, no. There is no competition… no quality… so they don't even have what it takes to contend for the title. They don't really buy quality, they are happy with whoever they get. Thing is, I don't think Steve Komphela has the power to buy players whereas at Chloorkop it's completely different. Coach Pitso makes his own decision and gets the final say. So yes, just Matsatsantsa and Bucs that are potentially competitive.
Do you agree with Zola, do Chiefs really lack quality?
