In what was news that swiftly became a trending topic online, we look at how fans reacted to AmaZulu and Benni McCarthy parting ways.
What's the story?
As mentioned, in what quickly became one of the biggest stories in local football this week, McCarthy found himself heading toward exit doors at Usuthu.
It's said that the club made the decision on the back of a disappointing season, given that the club had finished at a high second spot in the previous DStv Premiership campaign.
As for the club's form, AmaZulu have won just two out of their last 10 games in all competitions, with both victories coming in the CAF Champions League. In the league, Usuthu find themselves lingering in the 8th spot after 23 games, a distance from their 2020/21 runners up spot.
Thank You
That said, Benni thanked the AmaZulu fans for their support in a parting message that read, "I would like to sincerely thank the players and the fans for their support since I've joined AmaZulu. I feel privileged to have been able to make history with this club by taking them from the relegation zone to an unprecedented second-place position in the league last season and then taking the club into the group stages of the Champions League this year for the first time, beating multiple CAF Champions League winners TP Mazembe along the way. I wish the club all the best going forward as they build on this success."
Here's how the fans reacted to the news:
Bad decision if it's management one unless Benni himself wanted to leave then Shocked FC will benefit as usual.
I will never forgive him for celebrating that Cape Town City equaliser on MTN8 final. pic.twitter.com/LyVa54fvex
Benni’s firing has nothing to do with d results but everything to do with a fall out between him & management, especially over Sithebe matter.
That owner is going to sink that small team.
Well done @AmaZuluFootball, Benni was starting to think he is bigger than the club
It was expected, Benni has been pushing uSuthu management for quite sometime now with unbecoming comments. I think he wanted to leave
Have your say…
Do you think AmaZulu made the right decision?
