Barker Slams "Worst Refereeing" After Loss To Chiefs

Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker slammed the referee's performance after their defeat to Kaizer Chiefs.

Stellies saw their five-game unbeaten run come to an end on Saturday evening, as they went down 2-1 to the Soweto giants.

The Western Cape side did have goalkeeper Sage Stephens sent off in the first half, but Barker was not happy with the some of the other calls made.

"Unfortunately it's not often that I get upset as I am. We don't get given enough time to cool down so I'm gonna tell it is as it is," Barker told SuperSport after the game.

"I think Kaizer Chiefs they must have practice sessions they get ten players more than any other club because that seems like that's all they play against.

"Ten men at training and penalties, that's all. So for me it was one of the worst refereeing I've ever witnessed. So many free-kicks and tackles against but we never got one," he fumed.

"How many free-kicks around the box did Kaizer Chiefs get? Seven, eight, nine, how many did we get? Not one. When you get a red card, down a man, what can I say? Boys came back second-half, unlucky not to get a point but ja it's unfortunate."

He continued,  "It's difficult to play away from home against a big crowd, against a good team and then you go down a man and decisions go against you, so what can I say? I can be proud of the second-half, I thought first-half we were too passive, we didn't play with enough aggression, enough intensity," he continued.

"And second-half I thought we put on a good effort, yes they had their chances but ja unfortunately I felt we deserved maybe to get a point from the game," he added.
