Two giants of South African football clash in Pretoria this afternoon, as DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns host Kaizer Chiefs.

DStv Premiership

Teams: Mamelodi Sundowns v Kaizer Chiefs

Date: 09 August 2023

Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium

Time: 15h00

Sundowns got their campaign off to a winning start after beating Sekhukhune United 2-1 last Friday courtesy of goals by Peter Shalulile and Lucas Ribeiro.

The Brazilians will be looking to keep their perfect start and a winning run against Chiefs after completing a double over Amakhosi last season.

The Tshwane giants hammered the Glamour Boys 4-0 in the first round, courtesy of a brace by Peter Shalulile and goals from Gaston Sirino and Abubaker Nasir and edged them 1-0 in the reverse at FNB Stadium thanks to Neo Maema lone strike.

Chiefs, meanwhile, started their season with a goalless draw against Chippa United on Sunday and will be desperate to get on the scoresheet after not scoring in their two friendly matches, as they lost 1-0 to both Young Africans and Township Rollers.

Amakhosi's struggles in front of goal stretches back to last season, where they scored only one goal in their last three successive losses and will be looking to redeem themselves under new head coach Molefi Ntseki, especially since they did not score in their league games against Sundowns last season.

Here's how they line up:

Mamelodi Sundowns: 30. Williams, 25. Mudau, 13. Boutouil, 5. Lebusa, 34. Mvala, 4. Mokoena, 4. Maseko, 11. Allende, 18. Zwane, 23. Ribeiro, 38. Shalulile

Subs: 14. D.Onyango, 4. Kekana, 6. B.Onyango, 17. Modiba, 8. Zungu, 24. Mbule, 35. Maema, Nku, Aubaas
