Zinnbauer Switches Focus To Chiefs

Zinnbauer Switches Focus To Chiefs

Josef Zinnbauer maintains that the Absa Premiership title race might still be far from reality despite Orlando Pirates closing the gap at the top to just six points.

The Buccaneers now have a chance to even go a step further by cutting down the lead held by leaders Kaizer Chiefs to just three points when the two sides meet in the Soweto Derby at the end of the month.

With Amakhosi losing 2-1 to Maritzburg United and Pirates beating Black Leopards 1-0 at the weekend, it's set up for an intriguing title race with 10 matches to go.

"We don't have the pressure at the moment. Chiefs is a little bit under pressure. We have a focus for (the game against) Kaizer Chiefs in this moment, but it is a lot of points to try and catch them, maybe Wits can," Zinnbauer told reporters.

"We don't look to the title, but just the three points for the next game. We have nothing to lose and if we work well we can get the three points. I hope we get the luck. If you work hard you get a salary. Maybe we can do this and players make a top performance."

Asked what was the secret behind Pirates being unbeaten in the league since he arrived in December, the German said it was the never-say-die attitude.

"We want players that want the ball and players that want success. We are fighting 90 minutes for three points. This is why we have results at the moment – the supporters want this, players who are fighters. I said it in the last few weeks and we look to other games for points," said Zinnbauer, whose only defeat in all nine matches he has been in charge of came in the Nedbank Cup penalty shoot-out against Wits.
