Your Soweto Derby Logistics

You want the Soweto Derby to kick-off on time, then arrive early says head of Premier Soccer League security, Jacques Grobbelaar.

The biggest fixture on Mzansi's football calendar returns to FNB Stadium tomorrow afternoon with the match scheduled for 3.30pm, a slot that's often had to be delayed by a few minutes due to traffic congestion and fans arriving late.

With a music festival taking place next door at the Expo Centre, there's bound to be overcrowding with patrons heading to both venues.

The Absa Premiership match between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, one which could go a long way in deciding the title, is SOLD OUT.

"For the Soweto derby, there's a couple of risks I want to highlight. I honestly by now think our spectators understand that you need to come to the venue earlier, that is two or three hours before kick-off," said Grobbelaar.

"Stadiums are designed to bring a certain amount of people in over a certain amount of time. The FNB Stadium is built to bring in 88 000 people into the venue, but if spectators are not there within that time parameter then you are never going to get them in during the time you want them to be inside. We could have close to 93 000 people if we are counting the service providers on the day."

Grobbelaar also warned against counterfeit tickets and urged fans to make sure theirs have been purchased from an authorised seller.

"The music event happening brings about additional risk. FNB Stadium is designed to bring all those people in, but not in 10 minutes and not in an hour," he added.
