Pitso Keeping Tabs On The Soweto Derby

Pitso Keeping Tabs On The Soweto Derby

Pitso Mosimane has said he will be watching, or perhaps keeping a close eye on, the Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs this weekend.

Mamelodi Sundowns are away on CAF Champions League duty on the same day as they face Al Ahly in the first leg of their quarter-final clash, but the outcome at FNB Stadium affects their quest to retain the Absa Premiership title.

Mosimane wants Pirates to triumph to "keep things exciting" in the championship race. It would mean Chiefs' lead at the top is sliced down to three points, while Sundowns will be four points behind – with a game in hand.

"Let's see who is the smartest German of the two – it is interesting, I will be watching to see who is the clever German because at that time there is no friendship," said Mosimane of Pirates' German coach Josef Zinnbauer and his compatriot Ernst Middendorp.

"It's a derby. You've got to make sure that your people are happy. It's not even about the log, it's the derby. So maybe JZ will claim his first derby. Middendorp might have the experience and might win, we don't know, there's a long way to go."
