Mosimane Weighs In On Soweto Derby

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has picked his preferred winner in the upcoming Soweto Derby, and – unsurprisingly – it's Orlando Pirates.

While the Brazilians are away at Al Ahly for the first leg of their CAF Champions League quarterfinal clash, the Buccaneers will host Absa Premiership log leaders Kaizer Chiefs in a match that could have implications on the title race on Saturday afternoon.

"It's a chicken and egg story. You don't want Pirates to come closer to you, but you don't want Chiefs to move away. I think we should look at what makes the league interesting and exciting," said Mosimane when asked for his thoughts on the derby.

"Which result do you think could make the league exciting? I don't know, Pirates have played more games than us, probably there is a cushion there for us even if they win because we will still have a game or two in hand. But do you want the other people to run away with it? We had taken the gap down to four points and then we went to sleep. It was 13, then four and then it went to seven points and nine, now back to four."

Should Pirates win, they will close the gap at the top down to just three points and put Amakhosi under immense pressure in the final stretch of the championship chase.

"We are at four again, it is up to us if we don't drop the ball. But then again if Chiefs win all their games remaining then they win the league. So it's not in our hands. Obviously, if you want the league to be exciting, you don't wish them to win on Saturday," said Mosimane.
