A former Orlando Pirates defender has made a prediction on who'll secure the bragging rights for the upcoming Soweto Derby.
With the Absa Premiership matches put on hold this weekend to allow for the Nedbank Cup Last 16 fixtures to take place, Pirates will use all of their time to prepare for the end of the month's clash against Kaizer Chiefs.
The Buccaneers have maintained their unbeaten run in the league under coach Josef Zinnbauer, which has been extended to seven wins and one draw in eight matches, following last weekend's 1-0 victory over Black Leopards.
Bucs are now six points behind log leaders Chiefs, and in 3rd place on the standings, behind Mamelodi Sundowns who have moved to 2nd place after their 2-1 win over Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday evening.
Speaking to the Siya crew, former Pirates defender Lizo Mjempu explained why he thinks Zinnbauer's side could have an edge over Amakhosi on February 29.
"I think Pirates is going to win the Soweto Derby simply because they are a team with nothing to lose going to that match. On the other hand, Chiefs are under pressure because of the fact that they have been on the top of the log for long and had been seen as favorites," said Mjempu.
"If you recall last season, Pirates did almost the same thing when they chased Sundowns up to the end in the title race. It's what is going to happen even now, because Pirates picked up at the right time and are doing well," Mjempu added.
