Josef Zinnbauer comments on possibly beating Kaizer Chiefs four times

Orlando Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer has opened up on the possibility of beating Kaizer Chiefs for a record four times in a row, which would be a first for any Soweto Derby.

Pirates have enjoyed recent dominance over their fierce rivals over the last season, winning all three of the matches between the two sides in both league and cup competitions.

The longest run of consecutive derby wins is three wins from either side. Chiefs beat Pirates on three consecutive occasions in the 2013/14 and 2015/15 seasons, while Pirates have pulled the achievement off twice in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons and now in the 2020/21 campaign.

With a record fourth consecutive win a possibility when the two sides square off on Sunday, Zinnbauer has played down the significance of the achievement, but remains focused on his side's bid to get three points on the day.

"Ja, first we have to win the game, that is what is important for me first, not important is four [wins] in a row. I'm happy about this four yes, when we win the game, but we have a lot of work for us. I don't speak about four winnings in a row, we have to play this game and we have to focus on this game. It's not important for me the 100th derby. Yes for the journalists, for the supporters and for the clubs also. Its top 100 derbies but for me as a coach, you do not get more than three points in this game and I know it's a hard game for us against a top opponent, a top club and we have to focus on this," Zinnbauer told the media at a press conference ahead of the Soweto Derby.

Asked if his side have a slight edge over their opponents going into the match due to their 11-match unbeaten streak, Zinnbauer dismissed this, claiming his side are taking each match in their stride.

"It's not's not easy when you are flying a little bit or you have a little bit of goof results the players have to understand that its not running alone, we have to work for the next game all games are different and this is not a league game for me, it's a special derby, it's one of the biggest games in the whole of Africa and both clubs are 100% motivated."
