A former Kaizer Chiefs defender believes that the log leaders might be working on something, and could have a surprise in store for their arch-rivals Orlando Pirates for this weekend's clash.
All eyes in the football fraternity will be on the upcoming sold-out Soweto Derby, which is scheduled for Saturday at FNB Stadium, as the title race is reaching a climax.
While some in the fraternity have spoken about Chiefs' apparent loss of form, after the log leaders lost their league match against Maritzburg United last week, as well as the past weekend's Nedbank Cup clash against Highlands Park, ex-Chiefs defender Isaac Mabotsa says the past results will count for nothing when Amakhosi and the Buccaneers clash.
"Talking from experience, for me a derby is different from all the other games, irrespective of the form of the two clubs. No matter if Chiefs have lost two games in a row, or if Pirates haven't lost in the league (under Josef Zinnbauer), when those two teams meet it's a different story. Form counts for nothing when it comes to that game," Mabotsa told the Siya crew.
"The fact that Chiefs lost two games in row will make them not want to lose again, especcially against Pirates. What will make things even more interesting is that Pirates know that if they win they will close the gap with Chiefs. It's going to be a tough game. It's going to be a different ball game and a team that wants it the most on the day will win it," the former right-back added.
