Ernst Middendorp says he has an 89-page dossier on Orlando Pirates, but isn't sure yet how much information to give to his Kaizer Chiefs players.
The two teams face off in a Soweto Derby clash on Saturday that has been billed a potential Absa Premiership title decider given that Amakhosi are top of the table and Pirates are in third place, just six points behind – albeit having played a game more.
"Like each and every opponent, and here in this case I have 89 pages about Orlando Pirates from this season – each and everything. Now you have to be very clear structured about what you pump into your direction with the players," said Middendorp.
The German said there was recently a "very interesting" discussion in his native country regarding Pep Guardiola's time with Bayern Munich about information overload, with one of the players seemingly criticising the man who now manages Manchester City.
"Thomas Müller in Germany talks about how when Guardiola prepared for a Champions League game he always totally over the moon in terms of putting information into the team saying 'here is the situation, this is what we have to do'. I think the players (are) right. He wants information, but now it is our decisions (coaches) in terms of finding the right combinations, the right set up and first eleven. We should not go an pump so much information into each and every details," Middendorp said.
"I think at the moment, keep a certain frame, the bigger picture and let the players express based on a certain knowledge."
