This weekend, the Soweto Derby will be gracing our screens as Kaizer Chiefs host rivals Orlando Pirates at FNB stadium.
At 15h30 on Saturday afternoon, the grass will suffer as both teams will be out to steal the show as not only are three points on offer but bragging rights are also on the cards.
Who will walk out with their heads held high? Former Santos midfielder, David Mabeta has chosen his winner. Do you agree with him?
Match of the Week
Kaizer Chiefs v Orlando Pirates (Premier Soccer League)
Match 3 Soccer 6 Pool 9 February S6 V2 P1
League Rankings: Kaizer Chiefs 6th Orlando Pirates 2nd
Useful facts: One of the biggest derbies in the world of football is upon us and this instalment of it couldn't have come at a better time for both sets of fans. Although Kaizer Chiefs are yet to hit their straps under fairly new man in charge Ernst Middendorp, there is a lot of optimism about what could be achieved and a win in the Soweto Derby could inject the much-needed confidence going forward. Revenge is also on the cards after Amakhosi suffered three losses to Orlando Pirates last year. Second-placed Bucs come off a CAF Champions League match against Esperance which they dominated but failed to register on the score sheet, and Milutin Sredojevic will be hoping that his attackers have their scoring boots on come Saturday. The derby is where heroes and even villains are made, and it remains to be seen who will produce that match-winning moment for his team. That said, Leonardo Castro will be out to give the Buccaneers defence a torrid time, having scored the last time the two sides met. Meanwhile, Pirates will be looking to the likes of in-form Thembinkosi Lorch and Vincent Pule to hand them a fourth straight win over their biggest rivals.
David Mabeta: Orlando Pirates win
Highlands Park v Bidvest Wits (Premier Soccer League)
Match 2 Soccer 6 Pool 9 February S6 V2 P1
League Rankings:Highlands Park 10th Bidvest Wits 1st
Useful facts: Highlands Park put on a listless performance against Golden Arrows over the weekend and if they repeat that same performance against the log leaders, they will be punished. Home ground may not count for much as Bidvest Wits are also from Johannesburg and are used to the environment that Tembisa Stadium offers, as Bidvest Stadium is more or less the same. Owen da Gama cannot afford any slip-ups at this stage of the season, having started the campaign so well. At this rate, they face the danger of not making the Top Eight – although that would not be a train smash for a team that's just returned to the big league.
David Mabeta: Bidvest Wits win
AmaZulu v Cape Town City (Premier Soccer League)
Match 6 Soccer 6 Pool 9 February S6 V2 P1
League Rankings: AmaZulu 11th Cape Town City 4th
Useful facts: Cape Town City have been riding the crest of the wave and deservedly receiving plaudits for the kind of football they play, which is easy on the eye. Having had the better of Kaizer Chiefs on the road in their last league game, they now travel to Durban to try and conquer AmaZulu, who will surely be feeling the absence of Emiliano Tade whom they sold to Mamelodi Sundowns recently. But it's not a one-man sport and the show must go on. Usuthu will be wary of sliding down the table after they went on a great run following their being docked points by FIFA – two bad results and they could be in a messy fight to escape relegation! A win over the high-flying Cape side is a must, but they know they will have to work hard for it.
David Mabeta: Cape Town City win
