This weekend, the action continues as league action around the world will have the supporters on the edge of their seats. In the Spanish LaLiga, log leaders Barcelona will play away against Espanyol in what the Catalans will be hoping to stretch the six-point gap between themselves and their opponents.

Useful facts: It's a battle between two teams seated on opposite ends of the league table, and there are no prizes for guessing who is favoured to walk away with all three points. Valencia, though, have the pedigree and home advantage on their side, and should not be taken lightly. Perhaps the reason they are sitting where they are on the log is that of the staggering number of draws they have registered – eight in total – with three wins and three losses. They fell to giants Juventus and Real Madrid in their last two games and a third league loss in a row is unthinkable for Los Che.

Useful facts: This promises to be one hard-fought encounter, seeing only three points separate the two teams. Villarreal will likely be more motivated as they are further down the table and will be playing at home. But whether they can turn that motivation into a tangible result remains to be seen, especially looking at the fact they have only scored 13 goals in 14 league matches, while their opponents have netted 25 from the same number of games. Villarreal thrashed Celta Vigo 4-1 the last time the two teams did battle, in April this year.

Useful facts: Although Barcelona sit atop the La Liga standings, they are yet to be the well-oiled that many accustom them to be and have laboured to some of their recent victories. There are only six points separating the two teams, which should be enough motivation for the home side going into this fixture. However, if there's one thing the Catalan giants have done well thus far, it is scoring goals, having netted 37 times in 14 games, the highest number in the league. On the other hand, Espanyol will be keen to dust themselves off from the 3-0 defeat visited on them by Getafe in their last league clash before Tuesdays' Copa del Rey Last 32 second leg match.
