Permadeath has been one of the major talking points around Watch Dogs: Legion, however, it seems that it will be an optional addition.
In Watch Dogs: Legion, the concept of being able to play as anyone is arguably the most tantilising aspect.
Recruiting NPCs to the DeadSec cause is what the game seems to revolve around, and on the announcement, developers spoke about the potential to lose one of your favourite characters for good.
However, in a Reddit AMA, creative director Clint Hocking provided some more insight into the permadeath function, and admitted that it will be optional for players.
"Difficulty and Permadeath are separate options. You can play in Easy, Normal, or Hard, and you can play with Permadeath on or off in any difficulty," he said.
He also admitted that the function will not carry over into the multiplayer section of the game.
"Permadeath is an option in the main game. However it's not part of Multiplayer because we found very early that there was too much potential for griefing and randomness that didn't add to the fun of the game. We'll talk more about MP soon," he added.
Diving into even more detail, he pointed out that it was possible to play as one character for the majority of the game, unless there was something specific needed.
"Either way, you can choose to use one character throughout the game - as long as they are not arrested or hospitalized (or killed), you can stick with the same character throughout - except for a couple of instances where you might need someone specific."
Watch Dogs: Legion, which is the third instalment of the open-world franchise, will come out in October before releasing on next-generation consoles at a later date.
