A teenager went on a donation spree on Twitch, where he spent just under $20 000 (R350 000) over a period of 17 days.
In a report from Dot Esports, it is claimed that the boy wiped out "years of saving" by his mother, as he gave money to the likes of Atlanta Falcons' Kurt Benkert, Miami Heat's Meyers Leonard, Tfue, Gorb and Ewokttv.
Luckily, the mother, who did not want to reveal her identity, was able to recove most of the money used, although she said that getting in touch with Twitch was no simple task.
She explained that she filled out online help forms, sent registered mail to Emmet Shear, the CEO of Twitch, as well as Amazon's legal team, but received no response.
Xsolla, the company that partners Twitch in regards to payment services, finally proved to be of assistance and she was refunded on the condition the account was "permanently blocked to prevent future unauthorized charges."
The boy, who also remains anonymous, will now undergo counselling and has been limited to an hour a day of playtime, if he completes other positive activities during the day, according to the mother.
