Kaizer Chiefs insiders are backing a former Real Madrid head coach to take over from interim mentor Cavin Johnson at the end of the season, the Siya crew has been informed.
The coach in question is Brazilian Vanderlei Luxemburgo, who Siya sources have indicated is part of the Chiefs 5-man shortlist.
Other coaches in the shortlist include his countryman Alexandre Gallo, Spaniard Raul Caneda and then the two South Africans in Pitso Mosimane and Manqoba Mngqithi.

Sources very close to the club and privy to information have discussed why Luxemburgo is an option who can succeed at Amakhosi, as first reported by KickOff.
The sources had initially equated Luxemburgo with Europe because he was the Real Madrid mentor in 2004-05. Though, his most recent role was as the coach of Corinthians where he was relieved of his duties when his Brazilian club drew with Fortaleza in the Copa Sudamericana semi-finals in September 2023.
"Yes, Vanderlei is Brazilian but he knows European football very well but his style can also suite Kaizer Chiefs so that's why they included him on the shortlist," said the Siya source.
"He has a rich history with big teams so he can handle the pressure at Chiefs. Everyone in the technical team as well as management are convinced that if they can bring in Luxemburgo they can have the right coach hence the need to bring him on board," the source told Soccer Laduma.
A second Siya source reminded readers how a move for any other option in the shortlist is only if Chiefs can't bring in their number one target which is Pitso Mosimane. Soccer Laduma has reported how Mosimane is the first choice on the five-man shortlist.
"Yes, coach Luxemburgo is one of the favourites but the first choice still remains coach Pitso (Mosimane). It will all depend on whether he (Mosimane) doesn't join another overseas team or doesn't renew his deal with his current team (Abha Club)," said the second Siya source.
"It will be tough for Chiefs but they are playing a waiting game hence they have all these other coaches on the shortlist. Luxemburgo is one of them," the source observed.
The 71-year-old has also coached Vasco Da Gama, Flamengo and Santos in Brazil.
Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for a comment but no response was received by the time this story was published.
An agent working in Brazil, Pio Nogueira spoke to Kickoff about why Luxemburgo could consider Chiefs.
