Word reaching the Siya crew, all the way from sources in Cote d'Ivoire during the Africa Cup of Nations, is that Peter Shalulile had attracted interest from the United Arab Emirates.
The information provided suggested there was an enquiry for the Mamelodi Sundowns striker and Namibian captain as recently as January while he was playing for his country at the continental tournament.
But upon further investigation with insiders at Chloorkop, the details emerging were that the query only came prior to the start of the 2023/24 campaign.
The facts are probably somewhere in-between. But what is clear is that Shalulile has caught the eye of potential suitors abroad, although he would not come cheap having put pen to paper on a five-year contract that was announced in July 2022.
And considering Sundowns have proven to have the financial muscle to sign players from as far afield as South America and Sweden for anything between R30-45 million, their asking price for the Premier Soccer League's most lethal striker would more than likely be around those figures as well.
It would take some convincing. Shalulile has since returned to South Africa ahead of the resumption of the DStv Premiership next week after Namibia were eliminated from the Afcon in the Round of 16 by Angola late last month.
The 30-year-old has battled injuries this season, but still has nine goals in 19 matches for the Brazilians – this kind of consistency almost guarantees continued interest in his services elsewhere.
