Chiefs Not Giving Up On Pitso Despite 'Disturbing' Saudi Reports?

Chiefs Not Giving Up On Pitso Despite 'Disturbing' Saudi Reports?

Kaizer Chiefs are still interested in bringing in Pitso Mosimane, despite the former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor being linked to a return to Saudi Arabia, the Siya crew has been informed.

Mosimane is believed to be wanted by Saudi Pro League side, Abha Club which could be an attractive opportunity considering how he had promoted Al Ahli Saudi last season but then the latter club didn't hold onto him to coach in the top flight.

Despite those reports, Siya sources have indicated that the interest from Saudi Arabia will not stop Amakhosi talking to Mosimane, whose last job was with Al Wahda in the United Arab Emirates.

Interim coach Cavin Johnson is currently at the helm at Chiefs and insiders believe he will probably stay on at the club at least until the end of the season, after gaining impressive results in the past month.

"It's true the club is looking at other coaches who could possibly take over from coach Cavin (Johnson) but coach Pitso (Mosimane) is on top of the list. It doesn't really matter what's going on somewhere else," said the Siya source.

"They have kept him (Mosimane) as the first priority to eventually take over the coaching reigns at Chiefs. Yes, these reports of him being wanted again in Saudi Arabia could be disturbing because they were looking forward to having him mainly at the end of the season," the source revealed.

A second Siya source discussed how the club believes Mosimane is the one to change the fortunes of the club.

"You know they look at different coaches though they have one main target and in this case the main target after missing out on (Nasreddine) Nabi has been Pitso, since Pitso has been free. The other coaches (targets) could be for emergency in case they don't get him," said the second Siya source.

Soccer Laduma reported how Chiefs have also inquired about Zimbabwean coach Kallisto Pasuwa who won the quadruple in Malawi on the weekend.

This means coaches such as Pasuwa are not Amakhosi's first choice.

"So whether there are reports somewhere else about him going to Saudi Arabia they (Chiefs) will do what they can to get him. They believe he can change the fortunes at the club because he knows the culture and the local league.

"They know at the moment they need a coach like him that's why they are not giving up on him no matter what," the source concluded.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for further comments on this development but no other response was received while preparing this story.
