Pirates Set To Make Decision On Mabasa

With just two goals and one assist from 14 matches so far this season for Tshegofatso Mabasa at Sekhukhune United, the player's future has become increasingly in doubt, sources have indicated.

After starting the campaign on a high, playing regularly under the previous Babina Noko coach Kaitano Tembo, he has struggled for game-time under Brandon Truter.

In the last 12 matches, the lanky striker has featured only three times, moved down the pecking order of marksmen at the side. Mabasa is on a season-long loan deal at Sekhukhune from Orlando Pirates.

His contract with the Buccaneers runs until 2024 after the club exercised their two-year option last year as the original three-year deal he signed when he joined from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2019 was nearing an end.

As reported by the Siya crew, the player's Pirates future has been in doubt due to his lack of game-time, while indications are that Sekhukhune are also not keen to hold on to him on a permanent basis.

Indications from sources are that Royal AM is monitoring the 26-year-old's situation closely with a view of reuniting him with his former coach in John Maduka.

According to sources, Bucs could decide to send the player on loan again, depending on Jose Riveiro and his technical team's plans.

"Tshegofatso Mabasa is facing uncertain future and his lack of game-time isn't helping his situation. But the guy remains professional about his situation and is a hard worker, it's just that he isn't getting a chance to play regularly. Royal AM is monitoring the situation if Pirates decide against keeping him and (in the case that) he isn't staying with Sekhukhune," said a source.
