With the prospect of losing a left-back, Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be preparing to strengthen their defence for the future, the Siya crew understands.

The club is considering promoting a promising young talent from their development side to fortify the squad.

Siya sources have indicated that plans are believed to be in motion to promote 19-year-old left-back Ofentse Kgosana to the first team.

Insiders have added that the talented youngster has impressed coaching staff under Vela Khumalo and Dillon Sheppard during his time with the development team, and his performances during senior team training sessions have not gone unnoticed either.

"You know for now there are three left backs. Bradley Cross, Bongani Sam and Happy Mashiane and the future of Mashiane is hanging in the balance for now and they want to have someone to understudy Cross and Sam so Ofentse is the right candidate for that and that's why he is set for promotion," said the Siya source.

"He has been training with the first team under the watchful eye of the technical team and they are impressed. Yes, he trains with the first team as well as the DDC and plays for the DDC but now they believe he is ready to be promoted and acclimatize with the senior team before getting game time as well," the source added.

A second source stated that Kgosana is prepared to step up, showing his capability to both the development and senior coaches.

"He has a very good, educated left foot. The good thing is that he is good in both defence and attack. He is kind of a Tsepo Masilela type of player and they are very rare these days. So the team believes in him and they feel he is ready for top flight football if and when given the chance," the second source stated.

The young left-back recently showcased his skills by contributing to his team's victory in the Home of Legends trophy in Gqeberha against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Inquiries were made with Chiefs for an official comment, but no response was received by the time of publication.

The promotion of young talents like Kgosana could signify a strategic move towards ensuring future stability and success in Amakhosi's defensive lineup.
