In his search for a new club, former Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United defender Mzikayise Mashaba recently jetted out of the country to assess his options overseas.
Mashaba is currently unattached after parting ways with Chippa, as part of the squad changes that took place at the Eastern Cape outfit in January.
The left-back had been with the Eastern Cape club since July last year, having previously been in the football wilderness, since he was released from Sundowns in 2017.
The 31-year-old made five starts in the league for the Chilli Biys, before he was released from the club at the halfway mark of the season under the team's former coach Norman Mapeza.
A source confirmed to the Siya crew that Mashaba recently returned from Georgia, where he hoped to secure a deal to follow in the footsteps of former Sundowns and Bidvest Wits midfielder Jabulani Shongwe, as well as ex-Orlando Pirates winger Mahlatse Makudubela, after the duo signed for FC Gagra in Georgia's second division last year.
"Mzikayise Mashaba is eyeing a move to an overseas club in his next deal. He was recently in Georgia, where the likes of Shongwe and Makudubela are, but came back because he wasn't too satisfied with everything there. He wasn't happy with the league there and their conditions. He is assessing his options and will be looking to move to a better league abroad in his next deal. There's been a possibility of a move to Thailand but this thing with coronavirus is messing up things," said the source.
