Did PSL Clubs Turn Down Musona?

Former Kaizer Chiefs fan-favourite Knowledge Musona has resurfaced in Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League after a return to the Betway Premiership failed to materialise – reportedly due to concerns related to his stage of career.

A source close to the situation revealed: “He was offered to some top flight clubs in South Africa, but the response was lukewarm. There were questions about whether he could still match the tempo of the PSL, given the demands of the league. At this point in his career, those considerations naturally come into play.”

The 35-year-old, who was recently released by Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Okhdood, has since signed with ambitious Zimbabwean side Scottland FC, where he reunites with boyhood friend Khama Billiat and younger brother Walter Musona.

Word reaching the Siya crew is that Musona had to accept a pay cut to finalise the move.

Musona’s return to Zimbabwe has sent shockwaves across the local football fraternity, with many tipping Scottland FC to mount a serious title challenge in their maiden top flight campaign.

The striker was unveiled on Monday during half-time of the club’s clash against Yadah FC at Rufaro Stadium in Harare and is expected to be available for selection this Saturday against FC Platinum.

The club has yet to disclose the length of his contract, but insiders say the deal was fast-tracked with the 2025 AFCON in mind.

Having reversed his retirement from international football, Musona is keen to maintain match fitness ahead of the continental showpiece.

Nicknamed ‘The Smiling Assassin’, Musona spent just one season at Al-Okhdood, scoring five goals and registering three assists in 30 appearances.

While some may feel his best days are behind him, his experience and leadership could prove invaluable for Scottland FC, especially alongside fellow Aces Youth Academy graduate Billiat and his sibling Walter, who previously turned out for Polokwane City.

This will be the first time all three players feature for the same club, and they’ll be hoping to replicate the chemistry that once powered Zimbabwe through one of its most successful footballing eras.

Despite missing out on a PSL return, Musona remains widely regarded as one of the most lethal Zimbabwean forwards to have graced South African football.

During his time at Chiefs, he netted over 40 goals and contributed many assists, scooping multiple accolades, including the prestigious PSL Golden Boot.
