Kaizer Chiefs are gearing up to enter the race to sign a Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, according to insiders privy to information.

Soccer Laduma had already reported how Chiefs were linked to Siphesihle Mkhize.

The midfielder had started the season with Sekhukhune United, being on loan from Sundowns.

Siya sources close to both Naturena and Sekhukhune have indicated that Amakhosi are set to initiate discussions with their counterparts regarding Mkhize's acquisition.

The sources then add how this could be a complicated situation because he is at Babina Noko now.

"Now the deal is coming closer and closer to realisation and it will all depend on what Mamelodi Sundowns will say because the player is on loan at Sekhukhune United but with an option to buy. It's a bit of a tricky situation but Chiefs seem determined to get their man. That's why they are set to open up talks to have Siphesihle (Mkhize) for next season," the source told Soccer Laduma.

Since the intricacies of the transfer are compounded by Mkhize's loan status, a second Siya source highlights the potential for a complex negotiation involving three teams.

"If all goes well there could be player exchange between Sekhukhune and Chiefs. But it is like a three-team transfer talk because Sekhukhune have to get the player from  Sundowns first or Chiefs can get him straight from Sundowns because he is on loan to Sekhukhune United from Sundowns. Chiefs are working around the clock to have him as things stand now," the source observed.

At the age of 25, Mkhize has become an indispensable asset for Sekhukhune this season, making 20 appearances in the DStv Premiership, establishing himself as one of the team's most reliable midfielders.

Both Chiefs and Sekhukhune were contacted for comments, but no responses were received by the time this story was published.

Soccer Laduma also contacted Sundowns and the club decided not to comment on this story.
