Pirates To Extend Midfielder's Contract After Raja Interest?

Pirates To Extend Midfielder's Contract After Raja Interest?

Orlando Pirates are keen to keep one of their first team midfielders for another three years after increasing interest in the player from abroad, the Siya crew has been informed.

Siya sources close to the club have indicated that after Raja Casablanca of Morocco showed interest in Kabelo Dlamini, as reported by Soccer Laduma, then Pirates are understood to have moved faster to table a new three-year contract for the player.

The sources added that Dlamini's current contract is ending in June this year and Bucs won't want to lose him for free.

"Yes, it's true his current contract is coming to an end at the end of the season and the club has taken the initiative to table a new offer and keep him at the team for another three years. He didn't start the season very well as he was not playing regularly but lately he has been part of the team in some important games which means the technical team is happy with his performance. Hence, there is this new offer for him," the Siya source told Soccer Laduma.

A second Siya source noted how the reported interest from Raja was not the main reason why the Houghton based side tabled the new offer.

"They don't want to lose him for free to any team. The idea to renew his contract for another term was already in the team's plans and the interest from Raja Casablanca has been a coincidence. That's why they want him to stay at the team hence the three-year offer on the table for now," the source observed.

Even though the interest from Raja may have moved a potential deal forward faster, the Siya crew understands Bucs had intended to extend Dlamini's contract in any case.

The 27-year-old midfielder had joined Pirates from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2019 and signed a five-year contract which ends in June this year.

So far this season he has featured in 11 PSL games, chipping in with one goal in the league. Dlamini has played in five cup games and scored in the recent 4-2 Nedbank Cup win against AmaZulu FC in the quarter-finals.
