Sundowns 'Keep Buying Strikers': Youngster Wants To Leave?

Sundowns 'Keep Buying Strikers': Youngster Wants To Leave?

Jerome Karelse

With the January Transfer Window closing late tonight, one of Mamelodi Sundowns' youngsters may have requested for a clearance from the club, the Siya crew has been informed.

Siya sources have indicated that Jerome Karelse may have written to the management of the club asking for permission to leave and to look for a team where he will be given a chance to play regularly.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, the youngster's hopes to move to Europe faded due to a lack of game time at the Brazilians.

Now, the sources have added that there is a hope that Karelse could still one day realise his dreams if he can leave Sundowns first.

"I have heard there are interested clubs but I can't reveal anything as they have been waiting on Sundowns to release Jerome (Karelse) but they are not forthcoming. So if they know that there is interest they will delay even more. And it seems there is no plans for him and they keep on buying strikers, so the player just wants to move on and get on with his career," the source told Soccer Laduma.

A second Siya source added that former coach Steve Khomphela has always been an admirer of Karelse since his time at Sundowns and that his departure could have played a part in the youngster's lack of game time.

"I think if coach Steve (Komphela) was still here maybe things could have been different. He really had a liking for the boy and saw a great future in him. But let's wait and see what will happen when and if he gets his clearance from Sundowns.

"He could find a team where he will be more appropriated and used regularly. He has a great future but if he doesn't play at a top level that talent will be wasted. I think that's why he also wants to leave and go have time to play somewhere because Sundowns are buying senior strikers while he is there and it's very clear he would not be used any time soon and he is growing now," the source observed.

There have been reports in the local media that Sundowns are now linked with moves for South African players Tashreeq Matthews and Thembinkosi Lorch.

Soccer Laduma contacted Sundowns and the club decided not to comment on Karelse's future with the team.
