Businessman To Swallows’ Rescue?

Businessman To Swallows’ Rescue?

Moroka Swallows have been in the news for all the wrong reasons lately, culminating in an unprecedented decision to request the League to postpone their last two matches of last year as their players refused to honour said fixtures.

Head coach Steve Komphela also admitted, as reported by this publication, that prior to a match against SuperSport United, the players had gone on strike for almost 10 days until he pleaded with them to honour that encounter.

However, the players refused to honour the game against Mamelodi Sundowns as well as against Golden Arrows, attracting the ire of the PSL, who have charged the Gauteng-based outfit for bringing the League and its sponsors into disrepute.

Even chairman David Mogashoa was not complimentary about his own players in his condemnation of their attitude, which he claimed was tantamount to holding the club to ransom as he revealed they demanded their December salaries on the 22nd when their contracts stipulated that they would be paid on the last day of the month.

But now, Soccer Laduma has gathered that the side's financial woes could be a thing of the past as a benefactor has emerged from an unlikely source indicating a wish to purchase shares in the club and pump in a much-needed financial injection.

The Siya crew has been informed that Louis Luyt junior, the son of the former rugby boss, has approached the Dube Birds enquiring about the possibilities of purchasing a portion of the club's shares.

There is no doubt that the businessman, if negotiations are successful and both parties agree on the sale of the shares, could pump in much-needed funds to turn Swallows' fortunes around.
