AmaZulu Halt Contract Talks Until End Of Season?

Following a bit of a shopping spree in January to strengthen coach Pablo Franco Martin's team, news coming out of AmaZulu FC is that the club hierarchy is freezing contract talks until the end of the season.

Usuthu signed left back Sifiso Ngobeni on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns as well as striker Augustine Mulenga from Chippa United in what proved to be a tough transfer market for new sporting director Pedro Dias.

As soon as the window was closed, the idea was that the KwaZulu-Natal outfit would then turn their attention to holding on to what they have with several key players out of contract in June – among them Riaan Hanamub, Ben Motshwari and Ramahlwe Mphahlele, to name a few.

But the Siya crew has been led to believe this process could take some time, with Dias put in charge by president Sandile Zungu but understood to be told not to rush discussions until closer to the end of the campaign.

AmaZulu faced log leaders Sundowns on Tuesday night already desperate for points having suffered a heavy 3-1 defeat away to Cape Town Spurs on the opening weekend of the resumption of the DStv Premiership.

Their target is to make it into the Top Eight, although Zungu wants to aim a lot higher having finished runners-up behind Downs in coach Benni McCarthy's first campaign with the club during the 2020/21 season.
