Steven Gerrard has revealed why his latest signing Bongani Zungu, was a no-show in Rangers' Europa League win on Thursday evening.
After he was included in the matchday squad for the Scottish outfit, following a day of training with his new teammates, Zungu was expected to feature as a late sub for Rangers as they took on Lech Poznan.
However, there turned out to be no debut for the 28-year-old who was included in the Rangers team as a mere formality according to his coach, Steven Gerrard.
According to his legendary manager, the South African midfielder is about three weeks away from being at his best.
"We don't predict seeing the best out of Bongani for another couple of weeks, three weeks, at least, because he needs game-time. He has been called up by the national team so hopefully, we can get him over with the national team and he can get more training and more game-time. Then, after the international break, he will be good to go," Gerrard added.
Zungu has been included in the 25-man Bafana Bafana squad, who will face Sao Tome in back-to-back AFCON qualifiers next month.
