Swedish topflight outfit Varberg Bois have confirmed parting ways with a South African midfielder just four months before his contract was set to expire.
Tashreeq Matthews was set to become a free agent in December after more than two-and-a-half years with the Swedish side.
However, the club confirmed on Tuesday evening that the two parties took the decision to mutually part ways.
"Varberg's BoIS and Tashreeq Matthews go their separate ways. We thank Tashreeq Matthews for the entertainment for 2.5 years and we agreed with Tassie to break the agreement yesterday. Tassie wants a new challenge this fall after an injury-filled spring season, manager Jocke Persson said. Varbergs BoIS wishes Tashreeq the best of luck!" a social media post from the club read.

Matthews was voted the 2021 Breakout Player of the Season after scoring five goals and assisting another five strikes in 27 league games for Varbergs.
The 21-year-old made 10 appearances in the Allsvenskan this season.
Reports coming out of Europe have suggested that the attacker could be set for a switch to Swedish top-flight club IK Sirius.
