'Tau Is Worth Any Price For Chiefs'

Amidst speculation linking Bafana Bafana striker Percy Tau to Kaizer Chiefs, opinions are divided on whether he could potentially be a prudent acquisition for Amakhosi, taking into consideration the cost of such a signing.

Soccer Laduma recently reported how Al Ahly turned down an R18 million offer for Tau from a PSL club, according to Cairo24. Tau has been linked to Chiefs in the past, so Amakhosi are rumoured to be the club that the Egyptian reports are referring to. Though, it has not been made clear locally if Chiefs had actually bid for Tau yet.

Whether Chiefs tabled the offer or not, critics have reservations about the high cost, particularly for a player who has come under much criticism while playing for Bafana Bafana this year. With his reputation as South Africa's star forward in recent years, so much has been expected of Tau abroad and on the international stage.

On the other hand, there is former Chiefs defender, Thabang Rooi who is confident that Tau could significantly enhance the team's performances. In an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, Rooi, who is now a coach based in Vanderbijlpark, expressed his support for the potential signing.

"I think Percy (Tau) deserves any price that they can request for him because of his quality. You know he can deliver at any place, any team where ever he goes. If Chiefs really need his services then he deserves it and they should sign him because he will bring a different dimension to our team. His experience is also of great value. He is the kind of player you need in your team," Rooi told the Siya crew.

Rooi also highlighted Tau's superiority compared to other former Mamelodi Sundowns players who had joined Chiefs in the past, such as Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly.

"For me Percy Tau is 10 times better than both players you mentioned performance wise and lifestyle wise. He still delivered when he got to Egypt from Sundowns. I know he can still do it at Chiefs and he should not be compared to what happened to Billiat or Dolly as he is in a class of his own. If he can join Chiefs his money could really benefit the team," Rooi concluded.

This endorsement comes at a crucial time as Amakhosi are gearing up to announce their new signings along with a new technical team on July 28 during the Toyota Cup against Tanzanian side Yanga SC.

According to Rooi, any future addition of Tau could be a game-changer for Chiefs, providing them with a proven talent capable of elevating their gameplay and competitiveness in the league to finally win the PSL title again.
