The 67 minutes he played on the 29th of March in Al Ahly's first leg quarter final win was Tau's last appearance for the Egyptian giants.
Since then, he has missed four consecutive matches for coach Marcel Kohler's side.
When he excluded him from the team that played international friendlies against Andorra and Algeria last month, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos cited mental exhaustion as the reason for his exclusion.
But it has since been revealed that Tau is struggling with a niggling ankle that he has struggled to shake off in recent times.
Al Ahly find themselves in an unfamiliar 10th position on the Egyptian Premier League log standings, though it is worth noting that they had played four games less than first-placed Pyramids.
The Egyptian outfit also have a crucial period coming up in the next few weeks with the CAF Champions League semi-final clash against TP Mazembe this coming weekend.
It remains to be seen if their talisman Tau manages to shake off this injury and return for the crucial clash.
