It was in 2019 when Ernst Middendorp promoted a teenage Blom to the Chiefs first team having shone brightly for the club's reserves.
Since then his stock has rapidly risen, which saw him seal a switch to MLS outfit St Louis City last season.
Despite the high praise he so often receives, Blom, who played as a right back and a defensive midfielder, has never been known for his goalscoring prowess. It is for this reason that four years into his professional career and he was yet to find the back of the net.
However, on Sunday, Blom opened his account with a scintillating strike from the edge of the box, which saw his side claim all three points against Bongokuhle Hlongwane's Minnesota United.
Safe to say the Soweto native was delighted after getting his first professional goal.
"It feels so great, I'd like to give the glory to God because I've been praying so hard to get the first goal of my career and I think it was a team effort. If you saw the goal, it was a counter-press with our principles so credit to the guys also. I think it was just a team goal, but I am so excited to score," he told journalists at a press conference after the match.
"To be honest, I was so surprised, I didn't know what was happening around me, I saw my teammates were so excited and I was wondering what's going on until I saw the ball hit the back of the net. I wanted to go to the other corner, but I saw my teammates and I changed direction and ran to them.
"It was a team effort and credit to my teammates. I'm so excited to get maximum results today [Sunday]," he said.
