Mntambo: Mokwana 'Will Open Doors' For South Africans

Sekhukhune United captain Linda Mntambo has given his thoughts on Elias Mokwana's move to Tunisia, revealing what he hopes the move will do for South African players.

Despite interest from Kaizer Chiefs and Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns, Mokwana made the brave move to North Africa, becoming the first South African to join Tunisian giants Esperance.

Mokwana's rise to the top has been incredible, moving from the lower ranks to international football in a short space of time. He's become a Bafana Bafana international and has the potential to take it to another level if he finds his feet quickly and performs in Tunisia.

Sekhukhune will have to do without one of their star players from last season, but they have gone into the market to ensure they have the right quality to compete again this term.

Speaking to the media ahead of the MTN8 quarterfinal clash, Mntambo said he hopes Mokwana's move can open doors for scouts to search for more talent in South Africa.

"Elias (Mokwana) has been exceptional for us in the past seasons, but what made Elias to be the person that he is was his teammates. We are a team. We tend to look at the individual, but forget to look at the rest of the squad. Iron sharpens iron at training. We make each other better. If Elias is honest enough, he knows it's his teammates, the coaches he has worked with to find himself where he is in Tunisia," said Mntambo.

"We wish him everything of the best in his new club. We hope that he flies the South African flag high because he is not only flying the Sekhukhune flag, but the country's as well. He is going to be an ambassador and he is going to open doors. If he does well there, then a lot of scouts will come in and search for talent in our country."
