Bafana Bafana starlet, Lebo Mothiba, wrote his name into the history of Lille over the weekend as he scored a brace to end their relegation fears and keep them in Ligue 1.

The 22-year-old was sent on loan by Lille at the start of the season and was set to complete 2017/18 with Valenciennes in Ligue 2, however, they then fought hard to recall him in January as they required firepower to kick-start their bid to avoid relegation.

Mothiba did exactly that, and his five goals in 13 games have proven to be vital as the club managed to secure their spot in the top-flight with one game to go, taking his tally for the season to 14 goals in 37 games in all competitions.

Speaking to the club's official website after the game, the South African international said, "Achieving safety is a great satisfaction, the match was a very important step for us in the race to maintain (our status). We played well and we gave everything in both halves, and we are very happy to have won and stayed in Ligue 1 next season.
"It's a special night for me because I scored two goals for Lille and it keeps the club alive in Ligue 1. It's something I will never forget and it motivates me to keep working for progress."
Despite only being there for half a season, only one Lille player has scored more goals than Mothiba this season, and his presence has been lauded by fans and pundits alike as they expect more goals from him when the 2018/19 campaign gets underway.
As things stand, he will soon arrive in South Africa for the upcoming COSAFA Cup with Bafana.
