How Foster Made History & Closes In On Top Strikers

Burnley striker Lyle Foster has made history for a South African in the Premier League after he marked his return from suspension with another goal in what was the club's first victory of the season in England.

Foster scored the Clarets' first goal in their 2-1 victory over Luton Town on Tuesday evening, which was their first three-point haul of the campaign.

The former KVC Westerlo forward scored his third goal of the league season and became the first South African to score as much in his first five games in the Premier League, according to OptaJabu.

Foster looked beyond his goal after the game and said that the most important thing was the team earned their first win.

"I think it was good commitment from Sander (Berge), I left the ball for him, he picked it up, played a very good pass, luckily I had one or two touches and I tried to just put it around the goalkeeper. It went in, happy for the goal but most importantly happy for the three points," Foster said on Premier League TV after the match.

"It's something big, we needed this, the whole locker room needed this, we've done well, in the beginning of the season tough games, but we were able to show ourselves against big teams and we needed this one going to the weekend against Chelsea, hopefully we can step it up again and go to the (FIFA) break with good momentum," he added.

The 23-year-old's start to the season is impressive, compared to other big strikers in the league, as he has scored the same number of goals as Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah and is only one goal behind Arsenal's Bukayo Saka, who is their leading goal-scorer.

Foster's start is made more impressive by the fact that he missed two games due to suspension after his red-card against Nottingham Forest, compared to other top strikers who have played more matches.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is currently leading the goal-scoring charts in the Premier League with eight goals, followed by Tottenham Hotspur's Son Heung-Min with six goals and West Ham United's Jarrod Bowen completes the top three with five goals.
