Having finally made his Brighton Hove Albion debut, Percy Tau's manager Graham Potter has given his honest verdict on the Lion of Judah's Seagulls debut.
Tau was introduced as a second-half substitute, coming on for Alireza Jahanbakhsh for his Albion debut against Newport County in the 70th minute of their FA Cup third-round encounter.
This was much to the delight of a large South African contingent who fought off sleep to catch a glimpse of Tau in a Brighton shirt.
With the match ending 1-1 after extra time, Brighton eventually advanced 4-3 on penalties.
Brighton's official analytics revealed that of the 49 minutes Tau played, he made 28 touches in total. 17 of those were accurate passes. Tau also completed three of the four dribbles he attempted, while he took two shots and created two chances.
After the match, Potter gave a glittering account of Tau's first appearance in a Seagulls shirt.
"He did well," Potter told Brighton's media channels.
"Obviously, we will get to know him better and he will get to know us better. He contributed well. Pleased with his performance and contribution," Potter added.
It now remains to be seen whether Tau has done enough on his Brighton debut to ensure that he gets a look in for Potter's side that will face high-flying Manchester City in the Premier League on Wednesday.
