Could Mayo Break Into Bafana Team After Algeria Move?

Despite being among the top goalscorers in the PSL for the past two seasons, Khanyisa Mayo has not made coach Hugo Broos' final Bafana Bafana squads lately.

Mayo had also missed out on the Africa Cup of Nations where South Africa secured a bronze medal earlier this year.

With his recent move to play in the Algerian league with CR Belouizdad, questions arise about whether this transfer will help him regain a spot in the national team after gaining experience abroad.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Dominic Isaacs believes that before Mayo can be selected, he must prove his capability to play for the national team. In an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, Isaacs emphasized that Mayo's inclusion will depend on his performance in Algeria and how well he fits into Broos' system.

"The coach is obviously showing that he is loyal to the players who did duty for him at the (Africa) Cup of Nations. There is no reason for Mayo to give up. If he does well then the coach has to look at him. He deserves to be in the national team but it will depend on how he does in Algeria," Isaacs told Soccer Laduma.

Isaacs further noted that if Mayo receives a call-up, he must prove himself against the other strikers who are regularly selected by the coach.

"If he is given a call-up then he needs to produce in terms of scoring goals. If he is playing within the team then he has to adapt to the coach's system. No one can force the coach to select him. The coach is the boss. We just have to wait and see.

"In football there are no guarantees. Also we have to look at the pattern of play by the coach and who is in front of him. Are they producing the goods? Are they scoring the goals as well? The competition is high and tough. So, he has to give his all no matter where he is playing now," Isaacs concluded.

Mayo's move to Algeria presents an opportunity for him to showcase his talent on a new stage, and his performance there will be crucial in determining whether he can earn a recall to the Bafana Bafana squad.
